On the fascist attack on the KKE

On Saturday 26 July, a group of fascists stormed the headquarters of the Communist Party of Greece in the city of Chania (Crete) and attacked members of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE). Μembers of the KKE and KNE, along with local residents who gathered at the offices arrested the fascists and called the police.

Following a call by the KKE, residents of the city gathered at the courthouse to demand that the fascist criminals be punished. However, once again, the bourgeois justice system proved to be blind. The court sentenced the fascists to prison terms ranging from 18 to 21 months, with the possibility of parole, effectively remaining at liberty.

The issue was raised in parliament by D. Koutsoumbas, GS of the CC of the KKE. Meanwhile, the party organization in Chania held a large political rally to condemn the attack. In a statement, it noted, among other things, that: “Such actions are intended to terrorize and intimidate the people, to prevent them from standing up to the anti-people policies that are destroying their lives and rights. They are especially attacking the KKE at this time because, through its actions, it is at the forefront of organizing the struggle against the acute problems facing our people and youth. The fascists and various mechanisms of the system are disturbed because the KKE reveals on a daily basis the ever-deeper involvement of our country in imperialist wars and the causes and consequences of the transition to a war economy. Some believe that such actions will intimidate the members and supporters of the KKE while simultaneously whitewashing the real enemy: the system of exploitation. They are deluded! These practices target not only the KKE, but at the popular movement as a whole. We make it clear that the members of the KKE and the KNE are not intimidated. In fact, with even greater determination and resolve, we will devote all our energies to ensuring that the descendants of the Nazis end up where they truly belong: in the dustbin of history.”
